  1. Draw diagonal between two corners

  2. Extend baseline

  3. Derive or step off three divisions along baseline (by division into equal parts or trial and error). Example: increase rectangle by one-third

  4. Step off one division along baseline

  5. Erect perpendicular to create intersection at A along diagonal

  6. Extend vertical baseline

  7. Set compass from baseline to A; transfer setting to vertical baseline to find B

  8. Connect A and B to complete the scaled rectangle
